Keeping global supply chains moving daily is no mean feat. With more than 20 years of experience in international logistics, Karin Van Den Brekel was the perfect choice to be appointed GEFCO’s global manager for Life Sciences and Healthcare last year. Before GEFCO, she worked at Menlo Logistics, having started her career as a key account manager at TNT Logistics.
As a European leader in automotive logistics, GEFCO works across more than 10 industries, offering smart and flexible supply-chain solutions. Karin van den Brekel’s role includes coordinating the global efforts from her base in Schipol, making strategic partnerships across Europe. She has talked about the need for process standardization and a focus on integrated logistics.
Last year GEFCO launched GEFCO Enterprise AR, its new augmented-reality app for cool chain packaging solutions to be used by the freight forwarding division to increase quality control and boost productivity in the cold chain packing process. Trial runs of the app resulted in a 50% increase in productivity and a shortening of training times for employees.
Van Den Brekel also sees sustainability as a crucial consideration and GEFCO has adopted global standards, including the United Nations Global Compact, which sets out 17 principles on human rights, labour, the environment and corruption prevention, and its own Global Framework Agreement on corporate social responsibility and code of ethics, which promote best practice in HR and support human rights.
